INDIAN RIVER CRUISES
Anyone who has travelled by train or plane through India, or who has been driven on Indian roads, will be amazed to learn that there is actually a way to travel through the country in total serenity and comfort.
Yet, it is in fact possible to cruise for some 1750 miles on the rivers and inland waterways of India, passing through great cities, alongside wildlife sanctuaries and historical monuments and into the heart of rural India.
Assam Bengal Navigation are pioneers in this exploration.
Boutique Expedition Cruising
Our selection of boutique cruise ships are comfortable, contemporary, and celebratory of Assam and Bengal's rich regional heritage. They are designed to reflect a sense of homecoming to the region: the unique objets d'art and handicrafts aboard the ships have been carefully collected and curated over the years, and the locally made furniture and textiles are a product of traditional craftsmanship and modern design intervention.
As such, each boutique ship was designed to be purposefully distinct in its style, with interesting stories that accompany each ship's décor.
ABN CHARAIDEW II
ABN Rajmahal is a specially designed ship with extra-shallow draught that allows her to cruise all the way to the interiors of Varanasi; she is the first ship in India to be able to do this. Decked out in Bengali flair with touches of colonial elegance, her decor is well loved by guests.
Active Expedition Cruising
Our selection of active cruise ships are small in size, comfortable and filled with character. The décor is fresh and stylish, featuring handlooms, bamboo panelling, and locally made cane and rattan furniture.
Cycles on board and local tuk-tuks allow for independent exploration; additionally, on a few departures, we operate ‘cruising and cycling’ tours.
